It’s all about you

shaun_blackback2You. That’s right, you. You are what this magazine is for and about. You are a part of this community. You are what makes it special, engaging and happening, which leads me to the next aspect of what the magazine is about: involving you. Not just as readers but as participants. Everyone has a story. Maybe it’s about themselves or maybe it’s about someone else. Every day as I walk down the street and pass someone, I wonder to myself “What’s their story?”

We here at Terre Haute Living would like to hear your story –not only in the form of letters about what we’re doing right or wrong or commentary on articles, but also in your submissions of articles, poems, stories, illustrations, and photography. Yes, we do have access to a professional staff from the editorial department at the Tribune Star, but we want to present the voice and ideas of the rest of the community as well.

In that spirit, this issue features new voices that we are proud to present to you. Stacey Muncie and Aaron Morales are two excellent feature writers -Stacey’s article made me laugh out loud and recall some of my own Christmas tree follies, and Aaron’s piece is a wonderful example of magazine work. We are also featuring, for the first time, illustrations from a young local artist, Christy Brinkman. You will notice the back page is also a bit different. It features a short fiction piece by Joshua Sluder. Our usual Q&A with a member of a non-profit organization will make a return to the magazine soon. Steve Kash wrote our cover story and we look forward to some more pieces from him in the future. Long-time business writer Dorothy Jerse joins us this month with a profile on Conservatory of Music. All fresh, new voices for Terre Haute Living that we are sure will please you.

We hope you enjoy the new additions to this issue. In the coming issues there will be more exciting changes for Terre Haute Living. Stick around and I’m sure you will be delighted and surprised. If you would like to be a part of these changes, send me an email at shussey@terrehauteliving.com or drop by the offices at 222 South 7th Street.
